Anticipating Baby: A Sweet Season of Firsts
There’s something incredibly tender and beautiful about the quiet season before your first baby arrives. For young couples expecting their first child, everything feels like a “first”—the first time hearing the heartbeat, the first kick, the first baby shower, and even the first time saying “we’re going to be parents.”
This season is filled with so much wonder and love—it’s a chapter worth slowing down for.
As a maternity photographer based in Naperville Aurora area in Illinois and serving the Chicago west Suburbs, I've recently had the opportunity of photographing a young couple as they prepare to welcome their very first baby into the world. The way they looked at each other, the way her hands instinctively wrapped around her growing belly—it was pure magic. You could feel the anticipation and the love already blooming for this little one.
Maternity sessions aren’t just about capturing a baby bump. They’re about remembering how it felt before life changed forever. The way he held her close. The soft giggles between shots. The way her face lit up talking about tiny baby socks and nursery colors. These are the memories that fade fastest when the newborn days are a blur of feedings and snuggles and sleepless nights.
To all the new parents-to-be: take a breath. Savor this in-between time. The waiting is hard, but it’s also sacred. You’re standing at the edge of the most incredible adventure of your lives.
Whether you’re dreaming about names or still trying to figure out how to install the car seat (don’t worry, we’ve all been there!), know that you’re doing beautifully.
